How Many Calories Are in a Chipotle Bowl?

Part of our Chipotle Menu With Calories hub — How many calories is each way of ordering — burrito, bowl, tacos, salad, quesadilla?

The burrito bowl is Chipotle's blank canvas — it starts at literally zero calories and becomes whatever your scoops make it. The average realistic bowl lands between 650 and 750 calories, but the honest range is 245 (a lean salad-style bowl) to over 1,200 (double meat, everything, extra queso). If someone tells you "a Chipotle bowl is X calories" without asking what's in it, they're guessing.

Five Real Bowls, Five Real Numbers

Chicken + white rice + black beans + pico + cheese65551g

The 80/20 of Bowl Calories

Once you've run enough combinations, bowl math collapses to three facts:

  • Rice + beans is a 340-calorie foundation. That's fine — it's also 12g of protein and 8g of fiber — but it's the part of the bowl people forget they ordered.
  • The creamy corner decides everything. Cheese (110), sour cream (110), guac (230) and queso (120) are each individually reasonable and collectively a 570-calorie pile-up. Pick one like you mean it.
  • Salsas are a rounding error. All four salsas together are 150 calories. Take as many as you want; this is the one place on the line where abundance is free.

Bowl vs Burrito vs Salad

Identical fillings, three formats: burrito adds 320 (tortilla), bowl adds 0, salad subtracts ~210 if lettuce replaces rice — but adds 220 back if you take the vinaigrette. The salad-with-dressing paradox is real: a dressed salad often out-calories the equivalent bowl. More on that in salad bowl calories.

Protein-specific breakdowns: chicken bowls, steak bowls, carnitas, barbacoa and veggie bowls.
